4 Corners - Short Long

One ball, 1/3 space, 6 players. 4 feeders form a square. 1 defender and 1 attacker work in the middle of the square. Attacker is to pass and recieve one short pass and one long pass from each corner.

Attack

Circle Edge End Drill

End drill – Feeding into circle Set up: four corners of 2-3 players, 1 ball, goal third end of court. Aim for the two groups of players on transverse line to hit the circle edge and feed ball into the circle to a shooter with a defending player. Bottom left corner (A) player drives out along sideline. Receives a pass from the defending player in the circle. Player from top left corner (B) drives straight into the court to receive a pass from the sideline player. Player B passes back to player A and drives towards the circle edge where player A delivers a long ball to player B as close to the circle edge they can get. Player A joins line where player A started. Player from top right corner (C) drives to circle edge to help feed pass into player D who has driven from bottom right corner into the circle as shooter. Player B joins line player C started in. After player C delivers final pass to shooter, player C joins bottom right corner. Essentially, all players rotate anticlockwise around the 4 corners.

Set up: 8+ players, about a third area. Players set up evenly across 4 corners. Opposing players run into the middle and give each other a high five.

Pass and Cut- Shelley Special

Set up: 4 corners set up 2 feeders (static and with a ball each) Two players work together and drive out from opposite lines on the same half. Players straight drive to meet in the middle and touch (high 5). Both players then V cut towards direction of the feeder. Feeder delivers the ball to any one of the drivers. The driver who does not receive the ball becomes the attacker. The attacker must react and cross cut through court to receive a long pass in the opposite side of the court from the partner they have been working with who received the ball. Attacker to then return ball to the feeder on the opposite side to where they started.

Pass follow and return

4 players in a square ( cones can be used ) players pass the ball clockwise around the 4 corners of the square. After each pass the player follows the ball to the next corner and turns to return to receive the ball by the original corner when the ball comes round again. All players should be moving before they receive the ball.

Passing and Cutting Through Court

Set up:2 balls4 corners in partners Partners drive out together. One to receive a pass (attacker A) from feeder in opposite line and one to anticipate defending the oncoming attacker from diagonal side. Feeder (from opposite line) delivers ball to either one of the drivers who then becomes the attacker. Attacker A delivers ball to opposite attacker who has driven from the diagonal side. Attacker A to drive and cut through court to receive the ball from diagonal opposite feeder. Defensive partner to defend oncoming space/person. Attacker to receive the ball in front of defender. Ball returns back to line. Workers to return to line.

Truck and Trailer

Set up: Players set up in 4 corners 8+ players 2 balls in diagonally opposite corners Players without the balls and at the front of diagonally oppsite lines are the workers. Workers drive out and receive a pass from their left. Worker turns and passes back to the line they came from. Workers then drives back towards the line they came from to receive a short 'anywhere' pass (drop, high, bounce). Worker then drives to their left to receive a long over head ball and passes to the line they were driving towards. Passer sends a long flat ball to worker who then finishes off with a pass to the opposite line they originally started from.

Using the Overload

Cone out a square, 5m x 5m, with 3 attacker's and 1 defender inside. One of the attackers starts with a ball. The attacker's aim is to get the ball to all 4 corners in any order without being tagged with the ball by the defender. They start again if they are tagged. They can only move the ball by passing, they can't run with it. You can swap the defender out if they make it to all 4 corners or wait until they have managed it a few times to progress.

4 corner drill Getting free - ...

Minimum of 8 players with 2 balls (balls start on diagonally opposite corners). Players 1 and 3 run to their left towards the player that is going to feed the ball to them. Before reaching the player who is going to feed them the ball the receiving player should make a sharp dash towards the centre to receive the ball, accelerating as they do so. Once the ball is received the player passes it to the player diagonally across from where they started and follows their pass and joins the back of the queue. The drill continues.

5 vs 5 or 7 vs 7 depending on numbersSet up 4 boxes as shown in the diagram, ~3m x 3m each.The Attackers start with the ball in one of the boxes. Their aim is to get to the opposite box using passing. They are allowed into the other boxes but will only score if they get the ball to the opposite box.If the Defenders successfully intercept they can start in a box and do the same thing.

Set up: Four corners of about 2-3 players, 1/3 space, 2 balls.Balls start in opposing corners. Balls and player will be moving in an anti-clockwise rotation. Players from the corner without a ball drive on a diagonal into the third space and receive a pass from player with ball in front of them (corner to their right). Ball is received then passed on to the player at next corner, in anticlockwise direction. Player who drove joins the line they passed the ball to.The ball continues to rotate anticlockwise.

10+ players, 5+ balls, half court area.1. Half of the players stand in a star/circle shape, these are the feeders.2. Each feeding player has a partner who stands next to them to start, these are the workers.3. Each feeder has a ball.4. Workers drive into the middle and recieve a pass from the feeder two people away. i.e. they skip a person.5. Worker passes back to the line they have come from and drives towards the feeder who delivers a short bounce pass. 6. The feeder continues to drive around the worker and recives a long pass into the middle.7. Worker passes the ball back out to initial feeder who passes the ball back.8. Worker skips another feeder and passes to them, then joins the line.

8+ players, 2 balls, half court space. 1. Balls start in opposite corners.2. Player at the front pass the ball diagonally across the square and joins the back of that line.3. The player who receives the diagonal pass now sends a straight pass to the line opposite them and joins that line. 4. Passes are alternated.

Agility progression to circle.5 cones, half court, 1+ players.1. Cones are lay out in a diamond formation. Player starts at top of diamone, drives straight to top cone, back towards left cone, and straight drive to circle edge with strong bent knees. 2. Add in defence. Players run the same ilnes but a defende is added in to 'shadow'. 3. Bring in ball, remove the defender. Player still running the same lines. Player recieves a pass from the feeder at the circle edge. 4. Both players run the drill, both splitting seperate ways after first drive. Ball can be delivered at different points.

3-6 players, 1-2 balls, 1/3 space.1 feeder with a ball stands at the top of the triangle.2 other players (workers) make the base of the triangle.Working players drive in the shape of a bow. They will cross paths and need to communicate. The feeder will deliver random balls so workers need to be ready to recieve a pass at any point.Progression 1: Bring in a defender. Progression 2: Two sets of workers set up opposite eachother across a whole 1/3 space. There are 2 feeders. The drill plays out as above but when the coach calls 'swap' one worker from each side swaps sides and continues the drill.

Set up in 2 lines facing each other. 2 working players out of the lines back to back facing the line they have come from and with a ball each. Working players pass back to their lines then run behind the front player in the line (one with the ball). They are then to drive on a digonal to the middle of the 2 lines and receive a pass. Working players are now facing each other with a ball each and pass with left hands to each other receiving the opposite ball.Players then pass a high ball to their right (the line they have come from) and drive to the left (other players line) to intercept the other ball before it reaches the line. Players to join the back of the line and a new working pair to start in the middle.

3-5 players, 1 ball, 1/2 court space.1 player, the feeder stands on the third line with the ball.The other two players (workers) stand about 3 metres away facing away from the feeder.The workers jog away from the feeder. When the feeder calls &quot;turn&quot; or &quot;go&quot; both workers turn and drive towards the ball in anticipation to catch the pass. The feeder can choose either players to pass the ball to.This can be set up with two sets of workers and the feeder can alternate between each set of partners.

Set up: 2 post players, 2 balls, 4 cones set up in a square, 1/3 space.Workers line up behind a cone and drive straight out to first cone to recieve a sraight pass from passer.The worker then straight drives across to side cone, recieves a pass from other passer. Drives forward to front cone and receives diagonal pass from the first passer.Worker then drives sideways to the final cone to recieve a pass from the opposite passer. Worker drives midway between the front cones and recieves a pop pass.The worker then returns to the liine they came from and next worker drives out.

Full court, 6+ players, 1 passer, 1ball.Ball starts down one end of the court with a passer to start the drill.3 sets of partners set up down the court.Partner set 1 drives away from passer then forwards.Passer decides who to pass the ball too. The player who does not recieve the pass is to drive out and down the court. Other partners repeat this process.

Body Angles- 5 Points Movement...

Players set up like five points on a die- these are the feeders. Workers start in the middle facing out to one of the feeders who has the ball. Worker recieves a pass in the middle and passes back. They then drive on an angle towards the the far point on the same side as the ball ensuring they can see the ball and body angle is indicating where they would like the ball. Feeder sends a long pass to the point the worker is heading to.Worker then passes a long pass to the far diagonal feeder. They then front cut the middle point to receive another pass on the drive and pass back to the feeder. Once again they turn body angle to see the ball as well as indicate where they are heading and drive to the last far point on the die and receive a long pass from the feeder. Repeting again, the long diagonal pass and front cut for the pass in the middle. Roatate players after player makes a few successful run-throughs.

Hi there, Can someone give me some drills/games/ideas to help my girls to attack the ball. They are not contesting the ball at all or chasing it down, they are being way too polite. Thanks

Keeping girls motivated when losing every game in comp

Hi, I'm co-coaching an U13 team. The players are a mix of experienced, but mostly inexperienced players, with a couple of players who are really talented (these are two of our inexperienced players). All players are new to each other. The girls won every game at the district grading days and we were upgraded two levels. We are now in round 6 of the competition and the girls have lost every game and we just lost from the team that was below them on the ladder. We've had a couple of injuries and one was quite bad in round 4 requiring surgery which has shaken the girls as well. They are starting to lose heart and their game is deteriorating. How do we keep them motivated?
