Playing 1,2,3,5 formation - connecting?

I am coaching 1,2,3,5 formation in an U16 Girls team but I am having trouble getting my Halfbacks connecting with my Inside Forwards - Any suggestions

I guess it depends how badly disjoined they are. The 2-3-5 aims to create space wide for outletting to go from wide halves to forwards. We've been playing the system at various senior and junior levels for a while now, and the direct interaction between halves and IFs is certainly much less than you would expect from say a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 of the type that lots of us played last decade. If however, you have no connection at all, I would suspect a lack of posting up from the IFs towards posession - are they just waiting for passes to come or seeking them out?

Glenn

A very quick solution would be to get your Half Backs to overlap - but they should do so expecting the ball every time - you as the coach will know they wont get it all the time but encourage them to overlap so that they play a pass to run forward and get it back again in an attacking position going forward - it is a more flexible way of playing as your IF can then think of supporting that overlap or covering the position left by the defender.

thanks

Ian

What you say:
I'm finding the drills and sessions really helpful. Often it's difficult to keep sessions moving as well as stimulating for the players. So far the hockey sessions I have done have accomplished both.
