DESCRIPTION

4 cones are placed as shown in diagram.
Red player 1 runs to any cone, changes direction and receives ball from White player 1 back in the centre. Defender (Blue player 1) must stay with Red player 1 and go to the same cone before returning to the middle.
Progression - defender starts passive and slowly increases the pressure applied on the attacker

COACHING POINTS

  • Change of direction must be sudden
  • push off from the outter leg to increase the power of the change of direction

    Changing Direction - group practice:

  • Setup the practice as shown.

    • Feeder 1 has the ball. Worker runs out towards a cone, changes direction and sprints to receive a pass from the feeder.

    Dodging | Getting free

    Dodging:

    Split players into 4s inside a coned area. The attackers (white) start with the ball on the outside of the playing area.

    To begin with White 2 feints a movement one way and then sprints in opposite the direction (to begin with use a passive defender).

    After white 1 has passed the ball, she then has to do a feint dodge and run in opposite direction to receive the ball.

    Try to get 3 / 5 passes in a row before possession changes.

    4 corner cut back:

    Split players into pairs with one ball between them.

    The worker (player 2) drives from the centre to a cone and then back to the centre again to receive the ball from the feeder (player 1).

    The worker then passes back to the feeder and repeats. Each worker repeats this 10 times before changing over.

    Diagonal Cut to Lead | Getting free

    Diagonal Cut to Lead:

    1. In turn the worker feeds the ball to the feeder and then drives to the spot.
    2. The worker then changes direction and drives on to the fast and flat pass from the feeder.
    3. Finally the worker passes to the next player in the opposite line who then passes to the feeder and repeats the exercise in opposite direction.
